Moscow Exchange operating schedule and trading session schedule for markets. Opening hours of the Moscow Exchange and trading session schedule for markets. Opening hours of the Forex exchange during the New Year holidays.

For a Russian private investor, knowing the working hours of the Moscow Exchange is mandatory. Of course, those who have chosen investment options directly related to exchange trading cannot do without such information, but for others, news from the Moscow Exchange platforms and events during trading sessions are very important, since they can and do have a serious impact on all sectors of the economy and the country's financial sector.

A few words about the Moscow Exchange

The history of the Moscow Exchange dates back to 2011. The starting point was December, which finally completed the process of merging the two largest Russian exchange platforms formed in the 90s of the last century - MICEX and RTS. As a result, a fully functional exchange holding company has emerged in the financial sector, which today is among the 20 largest in the world (ranked 13th in 2017) in terms of trading volume. It contains everything necessary to provide clients with a full range of trading (trading) and related services. To this end, the structure expanded and included a depository and a clearing center.

Today, trading is underway on the Moscow Exchange platforms:

  • Securities - shares of Russian and foreign companies, bonds, including OFZ, Eurobonds, municipal and corporate bonds, shares of mutual funds, etc.
  • Domestic and foreign currency, precious metals.
  • Money market instruments (for example, repos) and derivative financial instruments (futures, options, etc.).
  • Several groups of goods.

Moscow Exchange markets and their work schedule

The Moscow Exchange provides users (legal entities and private investors) with access to the following markets:

  • stock;
  • urgent;
  • currency;
  • monetary (repo, credit and deposit operations);
  • commodity and precious metals market.

Bidding is ongoing on work days— trading platforms are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, on national days (for example, from November 4 to November 7 or on May holidays) and officially recognized religious holidays (such as Christmas).

The work schedule also includes days with special operating hours, when the exchange is open but trading is not conducted. It can be installed on pre-holidays and holidays, as well as on ordinary days due to the difficult situation in the markets.

Stock market section

On the Moscow Exchange, work is carried out with a variety of assets, which can be divided into two solid areas (markets):

  1. shares and investment units;
  2. bonds.

In the stock and unit market shares of domestic enterprises and groups and some foreign companies, shares of mutual investment funds (MUIFs), depository receipts and other instruments such as Exchange Trading Funds and mortgage certificates are traded.

In the bond market Trading participants can buy and sell bonds:

  • Federal loan and Russian sovereign Eurobonds;
  • Issued by regional and municipal authorities;
  • Corporate (nominated in foreign and national currency) and Eurobonds of companies.

Most of the trading operations in the section are carried out in the T+ format, in which payment and transfer of securities are carried out with a time shift relative to the moment of the transaction (for example, when using T+1 - on the next day, and T+2 - on the second day). Other options are also used in the section, for example, for most bonds, settlement and delivery are made on the same day (T+0 or T0 mode).

Depending on the mode used, settlement codes and type of orders, the trading session schedule is set. Some of them are shown in the table:

Trading modeTrading session periodTime interval

IClosing auction18:40-18:50

The following modes are designated:

  • I – trading in shares and bonds denominated in USD (T+2), OFZ (T+1);
  • II – trading in bonds (with the exception of OFZ and non-dollar Eurobonds), ETFs (settled in USD). (T+0);
  • III – trading in ETFs and investment units (T+2).

A proprietary schedule is used for specialized modes (for example, for the work of qualified investors), trading in partial lots of shares and shares (starts at 17:00 and continues until 18:45 and 18:40, respectively).

Transactions with large blocks of securities are made from 10:00 to 18:00 (T+) or from 11:00 to 17:00 (T0). For both modes, there are several periods for submitting, recording and executing orders.

The bidding schedule for placement and repurchase is considered by the administration on a case-by-case basis.

Derivatives market schedule

Knowing what time the derivatives section opens is necessary for those who trade or base their investment strategies on futures and options prices.

Transactions with derivative instruments turn out to be more profitable than directly with underlying assets. Trading contracts does not contain transaction costs (payment of depositary services, interest on loans and commissions on settlement transactions), allowing you to receive greater profits through leveraged transactions, and is paid at lower rates of exchange fees.

Today, derivative instruments are in circulation - RTS, MICEX, volatility, industry indices, contracts for shares and OFZ, commodities and foreign currencies, loan rates, etc.

Access to the derivatives market is provided from the client terminal (remote work using the global network is possible).

A session has 3 trading and 2 clearing periods.

Trading on the foreign exchange market

Foreign currency trading on the former MICEX and now the Moscow Exchange platforms has been carried out since 1992. Today, three quarters of dollar transactions on the Russian foreign exchange market, and almost 70% of transactions with the Euro, pass through it. I am rapidly increasing the volume of trading in the Chinese yuan. In addition, Belarusian, Kazakh and Ukrainian national currencies are traded here, operations are carried out on the EUR/USD pair, and swap transactions are concluded.

One of the main trading participants is the National Bank of the Russian Federation. Moscow Exchange quotes for various currency pairs have a significant impact on the official rates set by the Bank of Russia.

Operations on the foreign exchange market are carried out according to regulations from 10:00 to 23:50.

The commodity market has a similar work schedule, and transactions with precious metals are carried out on the same schedule.

How will exchanges work during the New Year holidays 2018? Exchange opening hours?

How will the exchange work during the New Year holidays 2018? Exchange opening hours?

Forex, Moscow Exchange

There are some brokers who always work, even if the exchange is closed, but not all of them are conscientious. Therefore, it is better to trade on proven platforms. Most (one might say all) will coordinate their work hours with the exchange's work schedule.

In general, the currency exchange and Forex operate five days a week and have two strict days off - Saturday and Sunday. But the New Year is not an ordinary holiday, which means the exchange regime will be changed.

Let us pay attention to the fact that Catholic Christmas receives a special tribute on New Year's holidays. For this reason, on December 24 of any year, including 2018, work on the stock exchange ceases.

Those who wish can resume trading in currencies, securities, gold, etc. no earlier than January 4th. But here you need to “keep your eyes open”, since most brokers significantly widen spreads on holidays. You need to trade with reduced stops and take profits, not take risks and not use large volumes. It is recommended to disable all advisors and not trust automated trading.

In any case, the first two months of the New Year will require great caution, but by the end of February 2018, Forex and foreign exchange markets will be trading as usual

Personally, I regularly follow the news and events that occur on the Moscow United Exchange. Therefore, today I want to talk about what this serious financial organization is, and also clarify the work schedule of the Moscow Exchange for the current year.

Trading operations in 2019 are carried out during trading sessions. Each market has its own schedule. Here is a general chart, blue cells are options expiration dates, red cells are weekends:

  • Stock trading lasts from 9:30 to 19:00 Moscow time, with a break for daytime clearing from 14:00 to 14:05
  • On the commodity, foreign exchange and derivatives markets - from 10:00 to 23:50, with intermediate clearing at 14:00-14:05, and evening clearing at 18:45-19:00

In the current calendar year, the Exchange is closed on religious and national holidays, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays.

Until the end of the year, in addition to the usual weekends, the work schedule of this organization provides for one more additional day off - November 4th. In addition, on certain days, working hours may be established, but without trading. For example, such a situation occurred on December 31 last year. This situation can also apply to regular holidays.

Briefly about the Exchange - functions, services

Today, this organization is a fully functional exchange platform where the following instruments are traded:

  • Stock
  • Bonds
  • Currency: domestic, foreign
  • Goods
  • Money market instruments and derivatives

The Moscow Exchange provides potential clients with a full range of trading services, since it includes a Clearing Center and a Depository. By now, the exchange has turned into a multi-purpose group, which was formed through the merger of the MICEX and RTS groups.

The resulting structure can trade all types of assets. It was named the Moscow Exchange, and in 2013 it placed its own shares on the stock market.

Main exchange activities

The main areas of work of the Exchange are reduced to the following operations and markets:

  1. Stock Exchange. Numerous securities are traded here: corporate and regional securities, shares of investment funds, receipts, certificates and others. The calculation is carried out according to the T+2 principle (that is, after 2 days)
  2. Currency market. Trading takes place in a variety of currencies: euro and dollar, yuan and British pound, hryvnia, tenge, rubles, etc. But the key and most popular pairs are USD/RUB, EUR/RUB. The market value of these pairs even influences the establishment of the official exchange rate
  3. Derivatives market. Here the purchase and sale of derivatives takes place: volatility, as well as contracts for precious metals, sugar, oil, stocks and bonds
  4. Clearing and settlement and depository operations, as well as trading in gold and silver. In addition, the organization offers clients high-tech products and services

What transactions can individuals perform on the Moscow Exchange?

There are many directions available to private investors, but they can trade on it not directly, but through their own investors. These are professional market intermediaries who must obtain a license to conduct brokerage operations. Private traders can purchase bonds, stocks, gold and silver, and trade currency pairs.

As for futures, most often retail investors are interested in futures for the dollar/ruble pair, RTS, oil and precious metals, and shares of a number of large Russian issuers (Sberbank and Gazprom).

How the Exchange improves conditions for its clients

But the exchange group is constantly working to expand the range of its activities. New securities of interesting foreign issuers and large exchange-traded investment funds are coming up for trading.

Trading in bonds of corporate clients is carried out starting from the first day of placement. This further increases market liquidity. The exchange is constantly working to improve the infrastructure of all areas of activity and all services.

In order for issuers to place their securities comfortably, the necessary conditions are created, namely:

  • Confidentiality is maintained
  • Assistance is provided in preparing a package of documents
  • Modern approaches and technologies are applied to the listing (circulation) of securities.

The listing reform made it possible to add securities of issuers at the initial placement stage to the list. It has become more convenient for small and medium-sized companies to attract investment resources thanks to the special direction of RII (Innovation and Investment Market). Electronic information and trading systems are constantly being improved.

The Moscow Exchange operates on the principles of providing broad opportunities for private and corporate investors, as well as for issuers. Using various operations, you can attract investment in your own business and effectively manage your finances and savings.

For most people, the end of December and the beginning of January is a time when salads are heavily chopped, houses are decorated, and the whole family gathers around the table for the holidays. Traders are people too and they also want to relax, relax and spend time with their families. Therefore, the question often arises: how is trading organized on the MICEX on pre-holidays and public holidays? In this article, we will shed light on the organization of the exchange’s work schedule during the holidays in 2019. We will also discuss whether a trader should work during the holidays and how to gain a balanced outlook.

Trading on MICEXon New Year's holidays: how it will be

According to the official schedule of the Moscow Exchange, trading will not be held directly on holidays, namely December 30 and 31, as well as January 1, 2 and 5-7.

There are some differences in the trading schedule on different markets of the Moscow Exchange. Thus, the above chart is relevant for the stock and foreign exchange markets, precious metals market, deposits and derivatives market. And on the SPFI market, in addition to the indicated dates, trading will not be held on December 29, January 3, 4 and 8.

Even on stock exchange business days at the end of December and beginning of January, there will be certain restrictions on transactions. Thus, transactions with a deadline for execution on the same day (TODAY), as well as swap transactions, will not be carried out if the fulfillment of obligations for their first parts falls on the day the transaction is concluded.

As you can see, the exchange's work schedule is very different from the generally accepted weekend schedule. What should a trader take into account in this regard?

Working on holidays: pros and cons

As has already become clear, the exchange does not work on holidays. But does this mean that nothing is happening in the markets these days? Of course not, because everyone knows that money doesn’t sleep and doesn’t go on vacation. Knowing this, many traders decide to use weekends on the stock exchange to observe quotes and devote time to market analysis, so that they can quickly and efficiently join trading after the holidays.

This approach has its advantages. Firstly, there are no transactions on holidays and you can observe the market in a calm environment and notice patterns that a trader may have missed before. Secondly, such market analysis can really help to make the right forecast and effectively use it in trading after the holidays.

But there are also disadvantages. Fully concentrating on trading, the trader forgets about what is no less important - proper rest, which is necessary, given the intense pace of trading. Finding a middle ground between trading and relaxation is not easy, but a trader should not forget about the main values - health and family, to which they also need to devote time.

Holidays: what should a trader remember?

To ensure that the holidays are effective for a trader, it is worth remembering a few simple rules.

  1. Moderation.
    This also applies to the attitude towards work on holidays and the way the holiday is celebrated. You can spend a few hours analyzing the market during the holidays or reading new relevant literature, but you can’t let this interfere with spending time with your family and enjoying communication.
    On the other hand, a celebration that is too violent and long with copious libations is likely to add problems with well-being and put the trader out of action for a long time. It is important to take into account that trading begins on the 3rd and 8th after the holidays.
  2. Mood.
    If a trader does not feel the desire or urge to trade during the holidays, it is better not to overpower yourself. Trading hastily or in conditions where it is impossible to concentrate on trading will not lead to success. The same applies to self-education on holidays. Perhaps, if you don’t have the right mood, you should completely take a break from work for a few days in order to properly rest.

Trading on the MICEX in 2019 will begin very soon! Surely the new year will bring certain changes to the stock exchange, for which you need to properly prepare. An excellent gift for a trader would be
