First Moscow State Medical University named after. Sechenov is one of the oldest universities in Russia, which turned 250 years old in 2008. At the moment, MSMU named after. Sechenov is one of the largest complexes for training future doctors and pharmacists, as well as certification and advanced training of practicing specialists.
Structure of the University Sechenov
The university complex includes a clinical center where students undergo their internship. This center includes 5 clinics with 3,000 beds and 11 laboratories where a wide variety of tests are carried out. There is also a central clinical laboratory and 16 clinical diagnostic services. Therefore, about 44,000 patients can be treated here annually as inpatients, and 250,000 as outpatients. The clinical center also includes a clinic for employees and students of Moscow State Medical University, a scientific library, the collection of which includes more than a million different textbooks, as well as a museum of the history of the development of medicine.
The entire university complex consists of 109 buildings, the total area of which is about 140 thousand square meters, as well as 20 educational buildings where lectures and practical classes are held. The university trains 9,000 students, both from Russia and from other countries. A volunteer center “The Little Prince” was created on the basis of the university. Friendly relations have developed between the participants of the center, because their goal is to help those who need it. Student holidays
The traditions of the university have been developing for many years, so MSMU students know how to not only study and work, they know a lot about relaxation. Traditionally, the university hosts a celebration of Students' Day, a festival where students show their vocal and dancing talents, an assembly day and many other exciting events. And first-year students get into college life with a fun Freshers' Day and medical student initiation, where they take the Hippocratic Oath.
They can also, in their free time from school, play sports at the Burevestnik stadium and wander through the botanical garden full of beautiful trees and flowers. And in the summer they can go to the Sechenovets sports and recreation camp, where they can become closer friends with each other and become one team.
I believe that such interest of applicants in the university is completely justified: no matter what anyone says, they teach really well! The teaching staff is excellent, especially in physiology and biochemistry (and these are one of the most important disciplines for a future doctor). Other subjects are also taught well; the advantage is that general education subjects such as history, philosophy or economics do not require much effort; to get a pass, it is enough not to miss too many classes and write a computer-based centralized test (CT). In the main subjects we write tests almost every lesson, but the test tasks are adequate, it is not necessary to cram them, because the database has already been edited over the years.
The program is extensive and the emphasis is on self-study. There is no place for lazy people here, you need to be able to organize your time correctly, and then you can really get everything done. At the same time, it is difficult to drop out due to poor academic performance, because 6 months are given to eliminate debts, and you can take exams even without tests.
Recently, life has been simplified for students by the fact that the same tests are available in the public domain by order of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, registration for retaking tests is done automatically, a personal account has been created in which the schedule, information about the appointment or withdrawal of scholarships, retakes and all CT results, in the future it is planned to publish information about the student’s attendance. Academic buildings are located at different metro stations, but everything is within walking distance. In the 1st year, most couples will be on Izmailovskaya. 2nd year - mainly Okhotny Ryad, where the departments are a 5-minute walk.
The scholarships are not too large, but, as in all universities, they are indexed. Now students starting from the 2nd semester of the 1st year receive 3,045 rubles (a single amount, there is no division into excellent and good students), only admitted first-year students receive about 1,500 rubles per month. Starting from the 3rd year, you can apply for an increased scholarship for educational, sports and scientific achievements.
The only negative is the lack of places in budget hostels (only benefit recipients are accommodated) - they plan to compensate this year, because... The finishing touches for a new dormitory with >1000 beds are being completed.
Information for activists: our university has many sports sections, volunteering and student scientific clubs are developed.
In general, the atmosphere in the student environment is calm and friendly, studying, in my opinion, is still not as difficult as they scare applicants) Groups are most often very friendly, everyone helps each other, otherwise it is almost impossible to adapt to the pace of study from the first days. The average USE result for applicants to the First Moscow State Medical University. I.M. Sechenov scored 94 points. In total, about 2.5 thousand people entered this university in 2016. The press service of the university reported this to the Moscow City News Agency.
“The average score, as in the previous year, remains high. For the budgetary form of education in health care specialties, it amounted to 94,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
